Each week the children will explore a different discipline of art through a multi sensory approach. Each week, the class will begin with discussing 3 different artists and looking at how they approached a similar topic in different ways. We will use this introduction as a spring board to experiment with pencil drawings, clay, painting, collage, wire sculpture, water colors, craypas, and sculpture. We will cover many different art movements such as: pop art, impressionism, realism, abstract art, and contemporary art. Children will have the opportunity to see how different artists were influenced by what came before and then create new and exciting works. The children will then try their hands at exploring it in their own way. The children will experiment with many techniques and create art in a positive and nurturing environment.
Our instructor, Marnie Gelfman, has taught art classes at a local art school for 10 years. She has a BFA from Cornell University and is on the Education Committee of the Whitney Museum of American Art.
